Thank you for applying to adopt one of our available rescues.
Finding each horse a safe, lasting home is driving principle as we engage with potential adopters. We work to create the right match between horse and adopter through transparency and ongoing support, including a lifetime safety net if circumstances change. This approach has resulted in a 93% adoption retention rate.
On the previous page, we outlined four key areas that determine a successful adoption. When potential adopters aren’t able to provide the necessary cost, time, and infrastructure outlined there, the end result is a declined adoption request.
Application and Process
The Adoption Process
1) Review Adopting an Equine
Ask yourself if I have the time and resources needed to adopt a rescued horse
2) Review the Available Horses
Use filters and read the descriptions to find the right horse to fit your what you are hoping to get from adopting a new horse.
3) Submit Your Application
Use the form on the right to submit your application. You’ll need to include photos of the available shelter and pasture where the horse will live, and include other animals on the property.
4) Phone Interview
An interview call will be scheduled to review your application with you, and discuss available equine that will fit your hopes best.
5) Meet and Greet
If the right equine is identified, you’ll come to Horse Haven to meet and greet the horse and staff in person.
6) Facility Review
As a last step, an HHT representative will travel to your facility to ensure it provides a safe environment for your horse. A non-refundable $25 application fee covers our costs.
7) Complete Your Adoption
Once approved, we will coordinate pickup or delivery of your horse. Adopters are responsible for transportation, though delivery may be available in select areas for an additional fee.

Applications are reviewed in the order received.
Facility reviews are scheduled based on volunteer availability.
Adopters must arrange pickup within 7 days of approval.
